Custom Question on Waivers

Written by Benjamin Lazarov

We're excited to be announcing a big new feature in Origin's internal Waiver system! The Waiver feature in Origin is one of our most popular and most used features, helping tour operators and tens of thousands of their customers.

Now, you can add Custom Questions to your Waiver templates! This is exciting for a few reasons:

  • You can now add important Waiver-related questions right to your Waiver instead of having them at Checkout.

  • You can reduce customer friction at checkout by moving some of your questions to the Waiver instead.

  • If your attorneys or insurance provider recommends your customers answer certain questions at the same time they sign your waiver, this feature could help you stay in compliance with their recommendations.

Important: Origin does not supply legal language or waiver templates. Origin's Waiver feature is meant to be used in conjunction with recommendations you get from your attorneys or insurance providers for what is necessary for your unique business.

Adding Custom Questions to a Waiver

You can add questions to any Waiver templates you have in your account. Once you click to edit your selected template, you will see an Add New Question button towards the bottom of the page.

You can add as many questions as you'd like, and you will have all the same question types to choose from as you're used to elsewhere in Origin. Once you've added your questions, click Save and you will be all set.

Once you've added your questions, they will be displayed in a table below the waiver. You can always edit them by clicking the pencil icon, or delete them by clicking the trash icon. You can also drag to reorder them in the way you want.

When a customer is booking their trip, they will be prompted after booking to complete their waiver. The first step of the waiver will be to complete these questions. In the screenshot below, we see this as the first step because the customer already entered their name and other contact details when they made the booking.

The customer who made the booking can simply send the waiver link to their group, or invite members of their group directly through their Origin account. When someone new is filling out the waiver, or when a guardian is completing a waiver for a minor, they will be prompted to enter their name and contact details as the first step.

When the customers sign their waivers and complete everything, their information will be displayed in the customer roster on the Adventure page for that booking. Each customer who has completed their waiver and entered their info will be on the roster, and you can click on each name to expand their details. The waiver questions will now be displayed here.

In addition to being on the Adventure page, the waiver questions are now on the downloadable waiver PDF that is saved for each waiver signature. This PDF is sent to your customer as soon as they sign the waiver, and is saved inside Origin. You can export these waivers and PDFs through our Zapier integration or our direct Google Sheets integration.

Learn how to use Origin's Zapier Integration here so you can build custom integrations for Waivers and other information from your Origin account.

We are always developing new features for Waivers, and there are more exciting features coming soon!
