Integrating with Zapier

Written by Benjamin Lazarov

Connect your Origin account to Zapier and instantly gain the ability to integrate with over 5,000+ different apps and platforms. The process is easy:

Activate the Origin Integration

If you don't have a Zapier account yet, you'll want to create one, and there is a free plan available. After you create your account, you'll need to activate the Origin integration by clicking this link:

Creating Your First Zap

Once activated, you can select Origin as the Trigger for a new Zap.

Once Origin is selected, you'll see options on the right-hand side of the screen asking what Event you want the Zap to trigger on. We're always adding new Events to this integration.

After you select an Event and proceed to the next step, you'll have to connect your Origin account to Zapier. You'll see a new popup window that will ask for your API key.

This API key is a string of letters and numbers that is unique to your Origin account, and it can be found by going to Company>Integrations in Origin. Since the key is unique and provides access to your account's data, we block it out with a black bar. This bar disappears when you hover over it, allowing you to copy/paste the API key into the window in Zapier.

Once this is done, your account is connected and Zapier can access data relating to the Event you chose from. The next step will ask you to Test the trigger, which will pull data down from your Origin account so you can use the different data fields in the next steps of the integration.

Click the blue Continue button at the bottom right, and click the Action rentable, or one of the Plus icons to "Add a step", this is where you select what app you want to connect Origin with, or add more advanced filters or conditional logic if you are doing a more complex integration.

There are thousands of apps to select which means you can get creative with your Zaps and integrations to include one app or multiple apps and steps. Once you select an app at this step, you will be prompted to go through a similar sign-in process where you log into the app you selected to connect it to your existing account.

In this article, we will choose a simple integration to show you how to connect and use your data. For this example, we will send a new message in Slack each time a Booking is created in Origin. You can choose the Slack app, choose from the action you want, and customize the message that will send. In the message field, you can add different data points that are pulled from Origin. You can make lists, sentences, or if you are connecting an app like Google Sheets, you can put one data point in each row or column.

Once you've configured your settings for this integration, you can preview the data that is sent to the app of your choosing and click "Test Step" to send the test data over to the app for a live test.

You should see this data come through to the app you chose. Below is a screenshot of the message that Zapier sent to Slack with Origin data. This testing is nice because you can see how the formatting looks and make changes back in Zapier if you don't like how something looks.

Once you are happy with the integration, you can publish the Zap and make it Live. Now, each time the Trigger happens, Zapier will send over the data you told it to into the app you connected. Pretty cool!
