Customizable waiver validity and reset rules

Choose how waivers expire and reset — rolling window, season-aligned, calendar year, or trip-specific — to match how your business actually runs.

📣 Rolling out: This feature is currently being released. If you don't see the validity rule options described below, they're on their way.

Origin used to reset all waivers on a single fixed annual schedule, which doesn't fit every operator's business. Now you can choose how waivers expire and reset to match your operation — whether that's a rolling 12 months from each guest's signing date, a season-aligned reset, or trip-specific waivers that only apply to one booking.

The four validity modes

1. Rolling Window

The waiver is valid for a set number of days from the date it's signed (typically 365 days). A guest who signs on July 15 is valid through July 14 of the following year. This is the most common setup for outfitters with returning guests throughout the year.

2. Season-Aligned

The waiver resets on a specific calendar date each year — for example, April 1 — regardless of when guests originally signed. Useful for operators with a defined operating season.

3. Calendar Year

The waiver resets every January 1. This is the legacy default behavior, now made explicit and selectable. Existing accounts default to this rule.

4. Trip-Specific

The waiver is valid only for the specific trip booked, and expires after the trip date. Useful when each trip needs a fresh waiver regardless of guest history.

Per-listing overrides

You can set a default validity rule for your whole company, and override it for specific listings. For example: rolling window company-wide, but trip-specific for your high-risk activities.

Important: existing waivers are protected

Changing your validity rule doesn't retroactively expire or revalidate waivers already on file. Each existing waiver continues to honor the rule that was in effect when it was signed. New rules apply going forward.

What guests see

If a guest already has a valid waiver under your new rule, they won't be prompted to sign again at checkout — and they won't receive reminder emails. Returning guests who would previously have been forced to re-sign on January 1 each year now stay valid for the full window you've configured.

How to configure your validity rule

Go to Waivers → Settings and look for the Validity rule section. Choose your rule type, configure any parameters (like window length or reset date), and save.
